Message from the Author
“I felt like I should’ve died. My deployment to Afghanistan was nothing short of grueling. The constant danger and uncertainty in that war-torn land made it feel like death was always just around the corner. Every day, I witnessed people, both friends and strangers, succumbing to the harsh realities of war. It was a time when survival itself felt like a miraculous feat, and I couldn’t help but wonder why I was spared when so many others weren’t. Some of the events from my book did happen to me while in the country. Those memories live in my mind like a dream one constantly has that they can’t escape. The bombs, bullets, and constant state of terror were something many of us had to live with each day. Still, we faced it head-on and didn’t let the shadows in our minds steal our focus on coming home alive.”

I’m a retired veteran who served twenty years in the United States Air Force. I’m a new author, and after deploying to the Middle East, I have never forgotten the people or my crazy experiences there. When not working my nine-to-five job, I spend most of my time writing, playing video games, listening to music, reading/listening to books, and watching my favorite movies and TV shows. Quentin Tarantino is my favorite director, Game of Thrones is my favorite show, Cyber Punk 2077 is my favorite video game, BB Easton is my all-time favorite author, and right now, Hozier, Deftones, and Billie Eilish are my favorite musicians to listen to.
I love dark romance novels, and once I’m done writing in the Thriller genre, I may switch to the Romance department. I find writing scenes of a sexual nature a lot more fun than writing about death. I like my whiskey neat and my coffee black, and I like to sit in a quiet corner with my hoodie on, writing or reading a good book while watching people as I sip my whiskey and take in the sight of you. I haven’t tried a Guinness, but as soon as I make my way to Ireland, The first thing I will do is find a pub with my friends and do my best to split the G on my first try.
From one of my favorite characters, Tate, and now to you, I say this:
Step out of the shadows and into the light.
With all my love,
~ Jen
Here is the poem I wrote in The Killing of a Shadow
Chapter 19 ~The Fate of a Friend
“I am no one…insignificant…small…unseen
I am a grain of sand on a vast desert
A small star in the night sky
A drop of water in the open sea
When burned to ash, I float away like dust
Then forgotten forever.”

Vows from Liam to Alex in The Shadows Return - Chapter 28
“I love you more than anything in this world, and I want to be with you for the rest of my life. You are the blood in my heart, and I give you my body that we may be one, and I give you my soul until our life shall be done. Because it’s all for you. Every particle of my being belongs to you. Be with me until my last breath, as I want to be with you for yours.”
